Lessons in Transporting the BI Administration Cockpit to Quality Assurance (QA).

It took the better part of a week, but with a fist clenching the air above my cube and a yell to startle my co-workers ... I had successfully transported the bi admin cockpit queries to QA.

Had I not been juggling multiple tasks, such as a redesign of the the bi inventory solution, prototyping a global bi design architecture, or coaching the client resources in data modeling, I may have reached this solution sooner.

Lesson Learned:  Sometimes quick and dirty is better than slow and meticulous.

This lesson was especially true when transporting the admin cockpit queries for SAP Netweaver 7.0 (2004s) SP.

SAP BI Tip: When transporting queries for the BI Admin Cockpit, also collect all associated web templates and web items

Most of these items will have a prefix of '0TCT_' and a date/time stamp of the initial installation.

Here is a recap of the events

1. Transport objects (such as data-sources, info-cubes, queries, etc) > success.
2. Check the queries in Portal > fail. (feel annoyed)

    error message:

3. Transport web template for query > success.
4. Check query in Portal > fail. (feel annoyed, but optimistic)

    error mesage:

5. Transport web item ... for query ... > sucess.
6. Check query in Portal > fail. (feel rage starting to build)

    error message:

7. Transport all queries ...
8. Transport all web templates ...
9. Transport all web items ...
10. Check query ... in Portal > SUCCESS! (feel air escaping clenched fist overhead)

11. Check query ... in Portal > success.
12. Check all queries in Portal under BI Administration tab > success.
