LVMPD – Search & Rescue: Short Haul & Fast Rope Training 2010

My friend Kristin invited me to shoot their training session near Mt. Charleston.

It was super cool watching the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the volunteers of the Search and Rescue Unit go through their drills.

To give you an idea of what these folks go through, the warm up was a 3-mile run with 50+ pounds on their backs followed by a series of “Short Haul and Fast Rope” drills. I was tired just watching them!

I came back to Minneapolis worried that I had missed the fall colors. Luckily, this year was unusually warm and I was able to capture this picture on a calm Wednesday afternoon.

Small improvements

A year ago, I was looking for a new hobby and gave photography a try.

When I saw the Sony A200 (a beginner’s model) on sale at the local Target store, I gave it a spin and captured anything and everything. Melissa and I still joke about how awful some of the earlier pictures turned out.

Fast forward 14 months and I found that three models that I worked with are using my pictures for their profile and portfolio. Feels great!
