Quick Tip: Using Posterous and MovableType

I ran into this problem when I had to reset the connection between blog on Posterous and MovableType.  Here's what you need to know to reconnect the two blogs via Autopost:

1. Blog URL: Enter the top-level domain to your site. For example, I would enter "http://www.haungo.com" and not "http://www.haungo.com/cgi/mt4/mt.cgi?" (which is the login page to the dashboard).

2. Username: The [username] for your MT blog.

3. Password: This one is tricky! It is not asking for the password for the [username] (in step 2).

Instead, you need to provide the "web services password". That secondary password can be found via the MT system overview > manage users > [username] > profile preferences > web services password.

After entering all three fields, click on the SAVE button and you should be ready to go!

Ever since I have configured this blog using MovableType, I've wanted to compose posts quickly.

For simple things such as articles or pictures that I have found online and I would like to share, you will be surprised how difficult 'sharing' can be.  Here is an example of my old workflow:

1. Download the picture.
2. Upload the picture.
3. Embed the picture.
4. Copy the link to the article.
5. Write a small comment about the piece.
6. Publish

Step 2 was always where I stop. Uploading a picture to my blog is difficult with MovableType. The are decisions that has to be made such as:

A. Which folder to upload the file.
B. What is the right size for the blog entry.
C. Should it open to a bigger picture when someone clicks on it.
D. Title, Description, and Tag.
E. Publish.

This all changes once I noticed there was a "QuickPost to Hau Ngo" widget in my dashboard. Who knew!  Of course, I can already hear my wife saying "Well, it's right in front of you."  Anyway, here's the new and improved workflow:

1. Click on the "QuickPost to Hau Ngo" widget.
2. Write something short and funny.
3. Publish.

Can you believe it? I reduce my workflow by half the steps!

If I need a picture, then I head out to Flickr to find an image. Click on the "Share This" button. Embed the HTML into my entry and call it a day.  Neat, huh?  Widgets. Gotta love 'em.

Gina Trapani writes on her new site Smartware.com (and former founder/editor of Lifehacker.com) and reminds us to the principles of the Tim Ferriss' Four Hour Work Week.

Personally, I find that having laser-sharp focus is a result of habit rather than an innate ability.  Having the above chart is a reminder of that belief.

Also, I've been juggling more projects, meetings, and interruptions in the past few weeks than I normally do.  Coincidently, I have been feeling less productive than usual.  A revisit to these principles is in order.

A co-worker jokingly showed me his "action-packed" schedule ... and my eyes started to glaze over.  How anyone can be productive with 6 hours of meetings in one day is beyond me.
